Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemingway The hills across the valley of the Ebro were long and white. On this siode there was no shade and no trees and the station was between two lines of rails in the sun. Close against the side of the station there was the warm shadow of the building and a curtain, made of strings of bamboo beads, hung across the open door into the bar, to keep out flies....

Helping others helps me Having guts always works out for me. Thinking life will be better in the future is stupid. I have to live now. Starting a charity is surprisingly easy. Being not truthful works against me. Everything I do always comes back to me. Assuming is stifling. Drugs feel great in the beginning and become a drag later on. Over time i get used to everything and start taking for...
25 Things you probably didn't know about me
1. Sarah(my wife) is not my first girlfriend. My first girlfriend was Catherine in Nursery school. I can’t even remember whether we broke up (oops).2. In primary 1, a girl called Stephanie stabbed my arm with a pencil. I cried and reported her to the teacher, and the teacher punished her. Ha! 3. I remember the He-Man Universe was one of my favourite toys. I collected all the good...

How not to run a Customer service
Called up the Wilson Parking people to reinstate my car’s access to the carpark. After being put on hold for 10 mins, me: ”Hi, I will like to reinstate access to the Coronation Shopping Plaza carpark. I had a replacement car earlier and I just got my car back from the workshop.”
Agent: ”Did you send a letter? You can either do it by email or fax.”me:...

Roller coaster graph of US housing prices
You really have to check this out. It is a 1st person rendition (using a rollercoaster perspective) of house prices in the US from 1890 to 2007. At the end, its remarkable that from 1997 onwards, the roller coaster just keeps going up and up and up. And ends up during 2007. We all know what happened thereafter. There has to be a crash. 6 Food Mistakes Parents Make
By TARA PARKER-POPE
HARRIET WOROBEY, a childhood nutrition
instructor, knows firsthand that children can be picky eaters, but even
she was surprised by a preschooler last year who ate a mostly chocolate diet.
“Chocolate milk, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip pancakes — it was unbelievable,” said...
Palin and Parenting
There has been a lot of excitement about Sarah Palin recently. I watched her speech on YouTube last night, and it seems now we have a fight on our hands. The republicans finally have found someone who could energise their conservative base, and yet appeal to the idea of change. During the speech, like a true politician, she trooped out her entire family and used their background to bolster her...

My daughters are going to SCGS!
I’ve recently finished my parent volunteer commitment to SCGS (Don’t ask me what I did, but it wasn’t anything to do with traffic.) So Lizzie and Marissa are probably going to SCGS for their primary school. Why SCGS? First of all, let me qualify that I wasn’t a kiasu parent looking for an early headstart, but the opportunity to volunteer just sort of came up. It’s...
Missus's birthday at Forlino
The Missus’ birthday was yesterday. As she had read this review of Forlino which was absolutely raving to the point short of naming it “Singapore’s best Italian restaurant” and “sexiest” one, I booked a table for dinner. The neighbours babysat while we enjoyed 2 hours off. The decor was in my opinion Gaudy. They had reindeer horns hung over the walls, and you...

While I’ll still be posting to the tumblr blog, I’m actually doing it through posterous.com. You would have thought tumblr.com was the simplest way to blog. Well, posterous tops it. All you need to do is to send an email to post@posterous.com with your blog posting (attaching pictures, youtube videos etc) and voila! It gets posted, not just on your posterous blog but also your...

Outsourcing tasks to a Virtual Assistant from...
After reading Timothy Feriss’s 4 hour work week, I’ve decided to try out the benefits of outsourcing your personal tasks to a virtual assistant. This book is basically about how you can work 4 hours a week so that you have time to enjoy the more important things in life. It is about liberating yourself from the useless and least productive tasks and focusing on the most bang for the...
